WELCOME TO THE C.O.W. #6
arvings f the eek (updated sporadically)
All Eraser Carvings carved in 1994-95 by Rusty Clark
on Chaselle EZCut material with X-acto #11 blade
and Speedball Linoleum Line Tool.
One of my best attempts at turning a magazine photo,
in this case from Natural History, into a carving. I just xeroxed
the zebra until the background dropped out and I had perfect contrast.
Framed him as a stamp so I could use him on envelopes.
Another "collaged" piece. I started with the Egyptian woman
with the snake and grafted on the tail from a Phoenician merman.
The Catfish is the Hoover vacuum of the aquatic world. It's also one of my favorite fish.
I stamp a lot of underwater scenes and have carved a variety of fish.
You sometimes find funny juxtapositions in ancient artwork.
The picnic tablecloth pattern under these Egyptian images struck me funny.
Never mind.
Another easy subject for new carvers - a striped skunk.
Like zebras and pandas - it's a cinch to see what to carve
away and what to leave behind on the eraser.
Classic representation of a mermaid. The starfish were added
for modesty's sake. Didn't want her passing entirely unclothed through
the mailstream on my postcards. What would Jesse Helms think?
