| Rusty Clark Rusty Clark is a Trustee of the Ramapogue Historical Society, a member of the Connecticut Gravestone Network, and leads interpretive cemetery tours. A lifelong naturalist who has led numerous wildflower and nature walks, she finds old graveyards to be havens for wildlife, and photogenic in all seasons. Her gravestone research has uncovered the identities of several local gravestone carvers; Joseph Williston who carved in the 1760s, and John Ely and John Ely Jr. who carved between 1770 and 1820. Some of these craftsmen lived and worked on the west side of the great river in West Springfield. Their distinctive carvings may be found in colonial graveyards throughout the Connecticut River valley. Her new book features the old burying grounds of Holyoke MA, completing the three part series of Stories Carved in Stone - West Side of the Great River. Future books will focus on Westfield and olde Springfield gravestones. |
